Filtered vs Unfiltered Olive Oil: What’s the Difference?

Fresh olive oil can contain tiny particles of olive flesh and moisture after extraction. Filtering removes much of that suspended material.

What unfiltered oil is like

Unfiltered oil can look cloudy, particularly when very fresh. Some people enjoy that appearance and the immediacy of a new-season oil.

What filtering does

Filtering improves clarity and removes residual water and solids that can affect stability over time. It does not turn a poor oil into a good one, and an unfiltered oil is not automatically higher quality.

Which is better?

Neither description alone tells you whether an oil is good. Fruit quality, harvest timing, milling, storage and freshness matter far more.

We choose filtration according to the style and intended life of each batch rather than treating one method as a badge of superiority.
